Common questions about how we price, collect, weigh in, and pay. Anything not answered here, WhatsApp us or email.

Pricing

How do you set your prices?

The per-kg material rates track London Metal Exchange spot prices for the underlying metals (gold, copper, palladium). The per-piece rates track average recovery yield for whole units. We update the public price list whenever inputs move significantly. Live list →

Why are some categories so much higher than others?

Gold content. RAM at £65/kg, mirror-back CPUs at £98/kg and ceramic 286/386/486 at £230/kg pay a lot because those substrates were built with gold-bonded wiring. Modern pinless LGA CPUs at £11/kg have far less per kilo.

Can I negotiate the rate?

Listed rates are firm for single jobs. For regular volume (trade accounts) we go +5–15% over list. WhatsApp the volume estimate to discuss.

What if my material is mixed across grades?

We grade at weigh-in and apply the per-grade rate to each sub-pile. Sort yourself for the best outcome — mixed buckets get priced at the lowest grade in the bucket if we can't separate quickly.

Collection

Do you offer free collection?

Yes — over 50 kg or 20 units we collect free across the North West, M62 corridor and London. Anywhere else mainland UK we cover freight on loads over 250 kg.

How quickly can you collect?

Typically within the same week. Same-day on local routes (Liverpool, Manchester, Preston) for bulk. London/Birmingham within 3–5 days.

Do you collect on weekends?

Saturdays sometimes for large business jobs with notice. Sundays no.

What if my load is under the free collection threshold?

Three options: (1) post in with any UK carrier — Royal Mail Tracked is fine for small lots; (2) drop off at our Rochdale facility Mon–Fri 09:00–17:00; (3) aggregate with another local collection.

Will you collect just hard drives for shredding?

Yes — we run dedicated drive-destruction jobs. Details →

Weigh-in & payment

How do you weigh?

Calibrated trade-approved scales. Photo + video record of every weigh-in. Slip emailed to you before payment.

Can I be present at weigh-in?

Yes — at our Rochdale facility, by appointment. We also offer on-site weigh option for very bulk loads (we bring the scale to you).

What if I disagree with the grade?

We re-weigh in person on camera, or return the load at our cost. No-quibble.

How fast do you pay?

Bank transfer within 1–2 working days of weigh-in. Trade accounts run Net 14 or Net 30 on agreed monthly invoicing.

Why bank transfer only — no cash?

UK Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payment for scrap metal. Bank transfer only, on every transaction, no exceptions. It's not a preference — it's the law.

What's the minimum payout?

£30 — below that the freight + admin doesn't cover the load. Aggregate small lots until you hit £30.

ID & compliance

Why do I need to show ID?

Same Act — photo ID and proof of address required on first sale. One-time check, then on file. We accept passport / driving licence + utility bill or bank statement under 3 months old.

What's a Waste Transfer Note (WTN)?

Legal document describing what waste was moved, from where to where, by whom. Required if you're a business disposing of business IT. We issue these on request, every collection.

Do you destroy data on drives?

Yes — every drive that comes in is wiped or physically shredded before resale. Shredding service details →

Trade accounts

What's a trade account?

Regular collections from ITAD providers, recyclers, office clearance companies, councils. Includes Net 14 / Net 30 invoicing, priority weigh-in slots, scheduled van pickups, +5–15% over listed rates on volume.

How do I apply?

WhatsApp or email expected monthly volume and the kind of material you'd be moving. We confirm rates and set up the account within a week.

Specific items

Do you buy CRT or LCD monitors?

No — WEEE-regulated. Here's why and where to take them.

Working modern CPUs / RAM / GPUs?

If they're genuinely working and modern (8th gen Intel+, DDR4 16GB+, modern GPUs), they're worth more refurb than scrap. eBay, Mazuma, Back Market, refurb specialists. We're scrap.

APC batteries?

Free of charge — we dispose responsibly under WEEE. The APC chassis itself pays £0.15/unit.

What's "complete" vs "missing parts"?

Complete = motherboard, drive, RAM, PSU all still in the case (laptop: motherboard, screen, battery, case). Any of those missing drops it to the "missing parts" rate.

Cables?

Cables with plugs £0.90 each. Household twin-and-earth £2.25/kg. Bare PSU bricks £0.20 each.
