Two services for end-of-life drives: scrap buyback (£1.50 per HDD, £15 per undamaged SSD) and secure data destruction with wipe certificate for sensitive media. Both can run on the same collection.

Scrap drive rates

Hard drives (£1.50/unit)

3.5" desktop or 2.5" laptop spinning HDDs. Dead, alive, makes no difference — we pay per unit. The heavy aluminium body, the strong rare-earth magnets inside and the platters all factor into the rate.

Undamaged SSDs (£15/unit)

SATA, M.2, NVMe — if it's physically intact (no cracked PCB, no missing controller) it pays £15. Most SSDs are technically resaleable as used storage even at "end of life" of one machine, hence the premium.

Secure HDD shredding service

For drives containing sensitive data — finance, healthcare, legal, government, or anything where wiping isn't enough — we offer physical shredding with wipe certificate:

• Drop-off or scheduled pickup at our Rochdale facility or your site
• On-site option available for large batches (mobile shredder)
• Chain-of-custody record from pickup through destruction
• Shred certificate with drive serials destroyed, time/date, witness signed
• Wipe certificate alternative for drives that can be wiped (NVMe Secure Erase, ATA Secure Erase)
• Compatible with ISO 27001 / NIST 800-88 destruction requirements

Pricing for shredding is quoted per drive based on volume — typically £1–£3 per drive at our facility, more on-site. The scrap value of the shredded material partially offsets the cost.

What we don't accept

• Encrypted drives without key. We can shred them but can't issue wipe-only certificates without verification.
• Drives still inside other equipment. Either pull them and send the drives + the chassis separately, or send the whole machine as a "complete unit" and we extract.

Bulk / ITAD jobs

If you're decommissioning a data centre or doing a corporate refresh, we can schedule recurring collections with chain-of-custody paperwork. Standard process:

1. Sealed totes at your site
2. Pickup with signed manifest
3. Transport in tracked vehicle
4. Weigh-in + serial capture at our facility
5. Shred or wipe per agreed spec
6. Certificate emailed within 48 hours
7. Net 14 / Net 30 invoicing

FAQ

Do you destroy in front of us?

Yes — witnessed destruction is available at our facility by appointment. Bring photo ID, watch the shredder run, take the certificate same day.

How granular is the shred?

Standard shred is 25mm strip (HMG IS5 enhanced). 6mm chip option available for higher-security jobs (NSA EPL Level 1 compatible).

Are the platters reusable after shredding?

No — the magnetic recording surface is fractured. No recovery possible.

What about the rare-earth magnets?

Recovered and sold separately to neodymium recyclers. We don't pay you for them as part of the HDD scrap rate — that's already built in.
